English culture can be so well summed up in photography of the English seaside. When looking for atmospheric street photographs, I don’t think there’s anywhere better than an out-of-season English seaside resort. So before the summer tourist season had swung into action, my camera and I paid a visit to the resort of Cleethorpes on the east coast.
A cold east wind blew as the resort was being quietly readied for the summer season. Cleethorpes is actually quite a small resort and I felt that a series of quite contrasty black and white images with a film-like grain would best convey what I saw and felt on this weekday afternoon in April.
