PHOTOGRAPHY IN THE GENES (Please use the arrows on the right to scroll down) Over the years I have photographed approximately 400 weddings and I am one of only a very small number of photographers in the Sheffield, Chesterfield and Derbyshire Peak District area who specialise solely in weddings. I have developed a style which reflects the warmth and the real joy of the day, avoiding the more usual manufactured "model shoot" style of photography. I work in a relaxed, informal and friendly way and I'm always keen to make the photography a thoroughly enjoyable part of the day for everyone involved. I am a qualified member of the British Institute of Professional Photography and represent the fourth generation of my family to work as professional photographers, a family that has been continuously in photography and photographic processing in Sheffield since 1870. SOME BACKGROUND.. I live in the Peak District village of Grindleford and love the rural life here, sharing it with my wife Helen, our six year old daughter Emily and not to mention our springer spaniel who I'm afraid just has to greet clients when they visit! I'm a photographer to the core, having been in photography for 24 years, covering commercial, social and travel photography as well as processing and printing and stints in the darkroom. I have done travel commissions in France, Italy, Spain and America and have also contributed to a number of books. I set up on my own back in 1989 and in recent years have concentrated solely on the one area of photography that I have always loved the most - weddings. Printing, both colour and black & white, is also a skill that I've always been passionate about. I'm certainly not one of the "straight-out-of-camera" photographers. Printing is an art in itself and is becoming sadly neglected in this digital age. All too often clients ask photographers if they can just put all the pictures on a disc so that they can print everything themselves, not realising that a substantial and integral part of producing high calibre work lies in the post-processing and technical understanding of printing. If you would like to have a chat about your wedding, view some samples and albums and to see if I'm the person that you would like to photograph your special day, please do not hesitate to get in touch. With very best wishes John Mottershaw.
